Streaming Video Engineer

Description: Pivothead Wearable imaging is searching for a streaming media engineer to join a rapidly expanding development team.  You will be developing live streaming applications for Pivothead live streaming devices and our cloud based social live streaming platform by enhancing feature sets associated with the embedded device media server and its cloud-based media server counterpart. Additionally, you will be a part of fast-paced, results driven cutting-edge Device-as-a-Platform company. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Research, design, implement and maintain new features and applications for the Streaming Servers, both cloud-based and embedded device versions
  • Learn/analyze Pivothead’s existing streaming solution extensively from embedded device media server through delivery
  • Enhance and expand existing software through analysis and identification in areas of feature development and optimization
  • Optimize advanced video streaming systems and video player decoding technology across web and mobile apps
  • Maintain standards for reliable, scalable, and secure systems
  • Document designs and proof-of-concepts
  • Interact with Developer teams throughout organization
  • Stay apprised of latest internet, hardware, and software technologies and standards
  • Research new concepts, methods, and technologies relevant to our solutions
  • Provide top level support to Enterprise and important third party Developers
  • Architect and implement improvements to existing and future streaming infrastructure
  • Optimize latency issues
  • Manage streaming and media server performance
  • Research and implement new interactive live video and VOD features, such as embedded contextual data
  • Provide streaming technical leadership


Basic Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS or graduate degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years overall relevant industry experience
  • Strong experience with Linux/Unix platforms and client/server applications
  • Strong experience with common internet protocols (eg. TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, DNS)
  • Strong understanding of RTSP, RTMP, HTTP, and HLS streaming protocols


Desired Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of media streaming technologies, encoding, protocols, and formats
  • Demonstrable experience in object oriented design and analysis
  • Experience with complete software development life cycle
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud based environments
  • Understanding of adaptive bit rate architecture and its implementations 


Additional Requirements: 

  • All new employees will undergo a 90 day trial period, during which time travel to our Taipei, Taiwan software office for training
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to think through ideas/solutions to see the problems or issues before they happen
  • Requires the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time 
  • Individual must be highly motivated and self-directed but also work well within a team
